My name is Joe Cunningham.
I am an avid motorcyclist and in 1993, moved to the mountains of North
Carolina where I could ride the winding roads
and enjoy the scenery along the beautiful
Blue Ridge Parkway.
I grew up in Cumberland, Maryland where I was introduced to woodturning in High School.
Woodturning is now my full-time hobby and
passion.
I started turning only bowls, then natural edge bowls, and have now moved on to vases, and hollow forms.
Each one of my pieces is hand crafted; No two are exactly alike.
Please see my page showing the bowl making
process.
I harvest local timber for all my turnings
as I'm fortunate to live in a rural area
where beautiful trees and woods are plentiful.
I enjoy working with the more interesting
woods and rare burls, but get the most enjoyment in looking for
the "Wabi-Sabi" in the imperfect
and aged woods.
"WABI" is the kind of perfect beauty that
is caused by just the right kind of imperfection,
which reflects the handmade craftsmanship.
"SABI" is the kind of beauty that can come
only with age.
Together, "Wabi-Sabi" is finding the beauty in nature's
imperfection -- things incomplete, modest,
and unconventional.
The design of each piece changes to reveal
the best grain, the intricate details, and
the Wabi-Sabi.
Each piece is branded with my initials, JC, type of wood,
serial number, and the year created.
All are then meticulously sanded, sealed and finished
to show their true beauty.
Buy one for yourself and remember, they make
great one-of-a-kind gifts for any occasion!
I will continue to be a vendor at various
Arts & Crafts fairs. Please visit my
page of Upcoming Events/Displays.
Thank you for visiting . . . Come back often
to see the latest "INCREDI-BOWL"
creations!
